Are there Canada cruises from Norfolk, Virginia?

Yes. Carnival Freedom sails 8-night round trips from Norfolk to Atlantic Canada in late summer and fall 2027 and 2028. This schedule lists 8, from 4 September 2027 to 28 October 2028. Every one calls at Halifax and Sydney in Nova Scotia, and either Saint John in New Brunswick or Charlottetown on Prince Edward Island.

Carnival announced the trips in September 2025, when it said Carnival Freedom would move to Norfolk and offer "eight-day Canada cruises with stops in Halifax, Sydney, Saint John or Charlottetown." Carnival sells them as 8-Day Canada cruises.

Are there New England cruises from Norfolk, VA?

Not on this schedule. The northern cruises from Norfolk are Carnival Freedom's 8-night trips to Canada, and every stop on them is Canadian: Halifax and Sydney in Nova Scotia, and Saint John or Charlottetown. None calls in Maine, Massachusetts or anywhere else in New England, so if you want a New England port, these trips do not have one.

What they do have is three port days in Nova Scotia, New Brunswick or Prince Edward Island, and four days at sea.

Which Canadian ports do Norfolk cruises visit?

Halifax and Sydney, Nova Scotia, on every trip, plus one more. Of these trips, 3 call at Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island, and the rest at Saint John, New Brunswick. The Saint John trips run in two orders: Saint John first in 2027, and Sydney first in 2028.

CharlottetownHalifax, Charlottetown, Sydney18 September 2027
Saint John, 2027Saint John, Halifax, Sydney4 September 2027
Saint John, 2028Sydney, Halifax, Saint John2 September 2028

The Charlottetown trips are those of 18 September and 2 October 2027 and 19 August 2028. The order makes no difference to the ports you see, only to which day you see them.

Cruisebound, where this site's itineraries and fares come from, listed the Sydney call as St. John's, Newfoundland, when we checked on 3 November 2026. Carnival's itinerary pages for these trips and its September 2025 announcement name Sydney, Nova Scotia, and so do our tables. None of these 8-night trips calls in Newfoundland.

The ship leaves Norfolk at 4pm on a Saturday and is back at 8am on the Sunday eight nights later. It spends one or two days at sea going north, makes three stops, then spends two days at sea coming home. The two Saint John versions make their three stops on consecutive days.

What is each Canadian stop like?

Halifax has a long waterfront boardwalk and a fort above downtown. Sydney's cruise pavilion stands by a giant fiddle, within walking distance of downtown. Saint John is on the Bay of Fundy, with the Reversing Falls and a city market. Charlottetown is the capital of Prince Edward Island, and its port is on the historic waterfront.

Halifax. Discover Halifax, the city's tourism organization, says the waterfront boardwalk stretches 4 kilometers, and lists the Canadian Museum of Immigration at Pier 21 among its museums. It describes the Citadel as perched above downtown. Carnival adds the Public Gardens and the lighthouse at Peggy's Cove.

Sydney. The Port of Sydney says the waterfront and downtown sights on its walking map are all within walking distance of the Joan Harriss Cruise Pavilion, where you shop by the Big Fiddle. Carnival's pick nearby is the Fortress of Louisbourg, rebuilt from its original rubble.

Saint John. Port Saint John says its Welcome Crew greets passengers as they come ashore, and that a market built from shipping containers stands next to the Marco Polo Cruise Terminal. Carnival points to the Reversing Falls, where it says the tide turns around within the hour, and to the Saint John City Market. The port tells visitors to dress in layers and to expect the city's fog on arrival, in any season.

Charlottetown. Port Charlottetown says its port is in the heart of the historic waterfront and that Founders' Food Hall and Market is a two-minute walk away. Carnival calls the city the capital of Prince Edward Island and the birthplace of Canada, after the 1864 conference held at Province House.

When do Canada cruises leave Norfolk?

In the same months Carnival Freedom also sails 6-night Bermuda trips between the Canada ones. Our Bermuda guide covers those, and our season guide shows everything that leaves Norfolk each month.

Do you need a passport for a Canada cruise from Norfolk?

The Canada Border Services Agency recommends that U.S. citizens of any age travel with a valid passport. It also accepts documents that show your full name, date of birth and citizenship, such as a birth certificate, a certificate of citizenship or naturalization, or a U.S. enhanced driver's license.

CBSA adds that if your proof of citizenship has no photo, you may be asked for a separate photo ID. For anyone traveling with a minor under 18, it asks for the minor's own ID, copies of custody papers where they apply, and a consent letter if you share custody and the other parent is not with you, or if you are not the minor's parent or guardian.

On the U.S. side, CBP lets U.S. citizens return from a closed-loop cruise, one that starts and ends at the same U.S. port, with a government-issued photo ID and proof of citizenship. If you had to leave the ship in Canada and fly home, you would need a passport. CBP requires one to enter the United States by air, with limited exceptions, and does not accept the passport card on international flights. Our cruise documents guide has the rest.

The Canada destination page lists the same sailings with a link to each, and the table below has every date and fare.
